According to the OS Name book in 1848, the Preaching Howe is/or was:

‘a Small hollow between two rocks in an arable field near the farm of [High] Skeog it is traditionally Said to have derived its name from it being resorted to as a place of Divine worship probably during the [Restoration] persecution its an object of Small importance’

Both the Preaching Howe and the Gallows Tree near it (see above) no longer appear on the modern map.
