  4. Dear Mark, Can you give me details of where I-can find the information regarding the mother in Ayrshire (Covenanters wife)who was found dying in the sheep pen with her children, her husband found her and the children, he held her till she died. Thank you, and thank for such a wealth of History at our fingertips, you so generously share.

  5. Dear Mark,

In researching my genealogy, I have a third grandfather recorded as Alexander Burns, b. c1805, on the birth certificate of Elizabeth Burns, whose mother is recorded only as “Ellen.” DNA evidence from 23andMe shows my ancestry from Scotland, in regions adjacent to Montrose. Of course, this leads me to wonder about the mysterious “Emma,” about whom you wrote. In our family, it was understood that there had been a scandalous past, but we were never afforded any details. It would be interesting to delve deeper into the relationship between Alexander Burns and the woman to whom he left a small fortune.
